Opmerkingen:
The painting came from the Guggenheim collection and was put up for sale at auction in Berlin on 19-20 August 1936. According to Goudstikker's records, two paintings by Troost had been placed with him on consignment before the war by 'R' (Rosenbaum) (see also NK1434). In a letter from Rosenberg, Director of Rosenbaum, dated August 1947, he stated that these paintings, among others, had been taken away by the 'Dienststelle Mühlmann' in March 1942. The notification states that they had been confiscated. Evidently, the paintings were in Rosenbaum's possession once more in 1942. The amount of purchase was not paid until September 1944 (SNK Archive nr.165). The intention was apparently to sell these two paintings before the war, through Goudstikker. Rosenbaum/Rosenberg did not accept the SNK's offer of buying back the Troosts and two other paintings for the sum he had received from Mühlmann in 1944. On 12 January 1948 the NBI (Netherlands Custodian Office) sent the SNK written confirmation of its ruling on the repurchasing option. The replies from Rosenbaum from this period have been lost. It appears that the firm protested, because its assets had depreciated substantially under the management of the Verwalter (trustee). On 25 May 1950, E. Verlaan declined the offer to buy back the two Troost paintings on behalf of I. Rosenbaum (SNK Archive nr.165).
