Opmerkingen:
Mr S.P.D. May and his wife R.M. May-Fuld both died on 15 May 1940. Their sole heir E. May, married to Mr A.L.A.M. von Marx, fled from the Netherlands with her husband around 14 May 1940. This painting and other works of art remained behind at the Lippmann, Rosenthal & Co. bank, Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 6-8, Amsterdam. Upon the orders of this bank it was brought to auction at Frederik Muller on 18 July 1944. After the war, Ms E. May was not approached with regard to the possible return of this work by the SNK.
